Penerapan REBT dalam Konseling Kelompok untuk Mengatasi Masalah Culture Shock pada Siswa SMP

Abstract

Culture shock is defined as the persistent anxiety that arises from the loss of all familiar signs and symbols in social relationships including the thousand and one ways that guide us in everyday situations. Students who are victims of culture shock often experience feelings of anxiety, and worry when they adjust to a new environment, especially the condition of the school environment where they are active. If assistance is not provided, students with low culture shock responsibilities will not experience a change in attitude.


This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling with the REBT approach in reducing culture shock at SMP PGRI 6 Malang. This study used a pre-experimental design with the type of one group pre-test and post-test design and the technique of taking research subjects was purposive sampling. The research instrument used the culture shock scale and the REBT group counseling treatment guidelines.


The results of the Wilcoxon's sign rank test analysis from the calculation results can be concluded that Zcount is -2.023 and sig (2-tailed) is 0.043. In addition, there are also differences in the average value of the pre-test and post-test where the average result obtained in the pre-test is 118 (high category) and post-test is 80.6 (low category). From the results of this study where REBT group counseling was able to reduce student culture shock. For future researchers are even more selective in determining the research sample in order to obtain better research results.
